Actonel - what is it?
Actonel, active ingredient risedronate sodium, is a medication that is available by prescription only. It is approved for the following treatments: osteoporosis found in men, prevention and treatment in women that are post menopausal, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in both women and men, the treatment of Paget's disease in women and men.

How It Works
Actonel is part of the class of medications called bisphosphonates. These medications work by slowing the how fast bone breaks down in the body.
Potential Side Effects
As is the case with all medications, there is the potential for side effects while taking Actonel. Not everyone that takes this medicine will notice side effects as it is generally well tolerated. If you do notice side effects, they are most often mild and require little or no treatment. Other side effects that are more serious are less commonly reported.
Commonly reported side effects might include: diarrhea, pain in the bones, joints and muscles, heartburn or indigestion.
