Adalat - What is it?
Adalat CC, active ingredient nifedipine, is a medication that is available by prescription only. It is used to treat hypertension. The extended release tablets work by slowly allowing the medication into the body over a period of time. The short acting type of this medication used to be available but is no longer being made.
Who is the maker?
Bayer Pharmaceuticals is the maker of Adalat CC. Generic forms of this medication are made by different companies and are sold under different names.
How It Works
Adalat CC belongs to the class of medications that block the calcium channels. This type of medication works to slow calcium absorption into the blood vessel walls and the heart. The slowed calcium absorption helps to relax the blood vessels and lightens the load on the heart, so blood flows more freely.
Possible Side Effects
As is the case with all medications, it is possible to experience side effects while taking this medicine. Other side effects that are more serious are less commonly reported. Some of the most commonly reported side effects include: headaches, dizziness, swelling in the lower legs, hands or feet - also known as water retention, and hot flashes.
