How It Works

Adderall XR is meant to slowly dissolve. Since it is a slow release medication, it makes it possible for one dosage to be effective.

Children and ADHD
One study done on children with ADHD found that those taking Adderal XR had significantly improved behavior over those children that did not take the medicine. These improvements were noticed and reported by teachers, who also noted improvements all day long in those taking Adderall XR.
Teenagers and ADHD
Another study showed that teens that had ADHD and were taking Adderall XR had notable improvement in their symptoms as compared with teens that had ADHD and did not take the medication.
ADHD and Adults
Adderall XR has also been studied in adults with ADHD. This medication has been shown to be an effective treatment for symptoms of adult ADHD.
Potential Side Effects
As is the case with all medications, there is a risk for potential side effects when taking Adderall XR. Not everyone that takes this medication will notice side effects as it is generally well tolerated. When side effects are noticed, they are usually mild and require little or no treatment.
