Boniva - What is it?
Boniva, active ingredient ibandronate sodium, is a medication that is available by prescription only. It is used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in women that are post menopausal. It is prescribed to be taken only once monthly.

How It Works
Boniva is part of the class of medications called bisphosphonates. This medication binds to bone cells to slow the breakdown of them.
Potential Side Effects
As with all medications, there is the potential for side effects while taking Boniva. Not everyone that takes this medication will notice side effects as it is generally well tolerated. If you do notice side effects, they are usually mild and require little or no treatment. Other side effects that are more serious are not as commonly reported.
Commonly reported side effects include: heartburn or indigestion, leg or arm pain, and diarrhea.
