Endocet - an overview
Endocet is an analgesic that contains a combination of two different active ingredients: acetaminophen and an opioid. It is prescribed to treat pain that is moderate to severe. Narcotic analgesics work to bind to the opioid receptors found in the spinal cord and brain, while acetaminophen helps to decrease the amount of prostaglandins that your body makes and can ease pain in this way. Endocet can also be prescribed to treat other problems as your doctor sees fit.
Secondary Effects
If you notice any of the signs of allergic reaction that include: trouble breathing, swelling of the throat, face, tongue and lips or hives, you should seek immediate medical attention.
Contact your doctor right away if you notice any serious secondary effects that include:
- Slowed heart beat and/or shallow breathing
- Fainting, lightheadedness
- Unusual behavior, thoughts or confusion
- Seizure
- Stomach pain, nausea, loss of appetite
- Itching
- Clay colored stools, dark urine or jaundice
Possible Abuse
As a Schedule II controlled substance, Endocet is very addictive and has the potential to affect a person that takes it both psychologically and physically. Because of this, it's important that the prescription be very closely monitored by your doctor. Taking Endocet recreationally can cause serious health effects.
Endocet is effective because it blocks the receptors for pain found in the brain and because of this, it can also cause the user to feel euphoria. The user often tries to find this feeling again and again, which causes them to take more Endocet, even when there is no longer a medical reason to take it. It is easy to begin abusing this medication from here.
Dosing information
Your dosage should be prescribed according to how severe your pain is and how you respond to this medication. It might be necessary to take more than the usual prescribed dosage if pain is very severe or for those that have a tolerance to opioid pain relievers. If there is constant pain, the opioid pain reliever should be taken regularly on a schedule. Endocet tablets are taken by mouth.
