How it Works
Inderal belongs to the class of medications known as beta blockers. Beta blockers work to block the receptors of beta in your body. The beta receptors can be found in many parts of the body, including the blood vessels and the heart. These are the receptors that respond to adrenaline and other stress hormones. They cause reactions that include: increase in blood pressure, heart rate and the force that the heart pumps the blood at.
Potential Side Effects
Since this is an older medicine, the information regarding side effects is limited. With new medications, prescribing information lists the exact percentage of each side effect, but with older medicines such as Inderal, this is not the case.
The little amount of information does list some of the potential side effects as: congestive heart failure, slow heart rate, insomnia, vomiting, nausea and depression.
