Who is Opana ER prescribed for?
Be sure to completely follow your doctor's instructions. He or she may adjust your dosage based on how you react to this medication. You should not change your dosage unless your doctor advises it. You should never take more Opana ER than your doctor prescribes.
Opana ER tablets should be swallowed whole. You should never crush, break, chew or dissolve these tablets before you swallow them. If you find a tablet has been dissolved, crushed, broken or chewed the entire dosage for 12 hours will go into the body at one time. This is potentially dangerous and you could lose your life from overdosing on this medication. If you can't swallow whole tablets you should talk to your doctor and find out about getting a different type of medication.
Opana ER (Oxymorphone) should be taken every 12 hours as your doctor prescribes. You should take this medication when your stomach is empty and should have not eaten for two hours or not eat for one hour. Talk to your doctor if taking this medication without eating makes you feel sick.
You should take your medication as soon as you realize that you've missed a dose. However, if it is almost time for the next dosage, you should skip the dose you missed and get back to your regular schedule. You should not take two dosages at one time unless your doctor specifically recommends this. If you're not sure about the dosing you should call your doctor.
If you're worried that you've taken too much Opana ER or that you've overdosed, seek emergency medical care.
Keep an open conversation about the amount of pain you feel. Your doctor can help to determine if you will need to keep taking this medication. If you continue to feel pain or if you have bothersome secondary effects, you should call your doctor.
Secondary effects
There is the possibility for trouble breathing when you take Opana ER.
Seek immediate medical attention if any of the following occurs:
- You notice that your breathing has become shallow
- Your breathing begins to slow down
- You feel any kind of confusion, dizziness, faintness or anything else unusual
It is possible that these are signs that you have overdosed on Opana ER of that your dosage is too high and can be very dangerous. If left untreated, these symptoms can lead to death.
There is the possiblity that Opana ER can cause a drop in blood pressure. A sign of this is dizziness upon standing from a sitting or lying position. It is also more possible to experience low blood pressure if you're taking other medications with similar effects.
Opana ER has the potential to cause a physical dependence. Your body will become accustomed to this medication if taken for more than three days. It is possible to experience symptoms of withdrawal if you quit taking it all at one time. It is possible to become ill with symptoms of withdrawal by quitting taking Opana ER on a slower basis. Your doctor will help you to do this.
Most of the common secondary effects with Opana ER include: constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sleepiness, itching, headaches, sedation and an increase in sweating. It is possible that these secondary effects will diminish with time. If you continue to have them or they are bothersome, call your doctor.
