Xalatan - What it is
Xalatan is an eye drop that your doctor may prescribe to help lower the pressure in the eyes for those that have the type of glaucoma known as open angle as well as ocular hypertension.
Who makes it?
Pfizer, Inc. makes Xalatan.
How it works
Xalatan belongs to the class of drugs called prostaglandins. This and other medicines that are used to help lower the pressure of the eye often work to either lower the amount of fluid that they eye makes or by making it easier for the eye to drain extra fluid. Both of these actions allow for a lower pressure in the eye.
Xalatan helps to open the draining channels around the eye, which helps to get rid of extra fluid that causes pressure. When the pressure is lowered, the chances of optic nerve damage as well as vision loss can be reduced.
