Adderall Side Effects

While most patients will tolerate Adderall just fine, there are possible side effects that can take place. These include: weight loss, headaches, and certain types of emotional changes. In some cases, the Adderall side effects are only very minor and are easily treated either by yourself or your doctor. Even so, some side effects for Adderall, tightness in chest for instance, should be reported immediately to your doctor. Keep in mind your physician has prescribed this drug because they have determined that its benefits are greater than the side effect risks. Many of those using this medication will not encounter serious side effects.

Common Adderall Side Effects:

Most medicines have some side effects, however many people will not experience them. You should consult with your physician if you experience any of the following common side effects. You should also consult your doctor is they persist while you are using Adderall:

Dizziness, diarrhea, constipation, difficulty sleeping, headache, dry mouth, loss of appetite, weight loss, nausea, stomach pain, nervousness, restlessness, or vomiting. The drug Adderall has been known to cause temporary (short-term) slowing of growth for some children. This condition is usually minimal and results in less than one inch in height. Over time, these children will normally catch up in their growth.

There are some side effects of this drug that do not require medical attention. For the most part, these minor side effects will go away as your body begins to adjust to the drug. Also, your medical doctor may have suggestions about ways to reduce or even prevent these side effects.

Rare Adderall Side Effects:

The above are more common side effects of Adderall, but there can be others. The less common side effects have been reported in only a very few patients who are taking Adderall. Because they are so rare, it is hard to know if they were caused by the Adderall or by something else.

This is a list of the less common side effects as based on Adderall XR. They include: fatigue, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, constipation, impotence, shakiness, and lowered sexual drive.

You should get immediate medical attention if any of the following severe side effects take place when using Adderall:

Any type of severe allergic reaction. This might include hives, rash, itching, chest tightening, difficulty breathing, swelling in the face, mouth, lips, or tongue, any type of blurred vision, sex drive changes, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, confusion, fever, depression, fast heartbeat, growth suppression, changes in mood, one-sided weakness, frequent urination, painful urination, seizures, stomach pain, severe headache, sudden weight loss, dizziness, difficulty speaking, uncontrolled muscle movement, sudden unexplained weakness, changes in vision.

The above is only a partial list. Read the drug literature to see the complete list. Contact your doctor is you notice other side effects that are not listed above. Seek emergency medical help immediately if you notice any or some of the following overdose symptoms: dizziness, blurred vision, nervousness, dark-colored urine, lack of appetite, restlessness, muscle pain, or violent actions.

Adderall Side Effect Summary:

While taking Adderall, you may notice some of the side effects as were explained above. It is not possible for your doctor to know in advance if you will experience any of the side effects until you have taken the medicine.
