Once patents on Percocet products expired, generic versions of the drug became available in various strengths. As a result, many pharmacies today no longer carry brand-name forms of Percocet as the generic forms are so much cheaper. There is one strength of Percocet still unavailable in a generic variety and that is the 2.5/500 mg strength.
Generic Percocet - An Overview
There are two different medications contained in Percocet
: acetaminophen and Oxycodone
(a narcotic). Acetaminophen, a milder form of pain relief, intensifies the effect of oxycodone, whereas oxycodone belongs to the category of drugs known as narcotic pain relievers. Normally you can obtain Percocet or oxycodone/APAP with a prescription. Typically, doctors will prescribe Percocet for those patients with severe and moderate pain relief
Endo Pharmaceuticals are the manufacturers of the brand-name Percocet, although generic versions are now readily available on all Percocet products.

These are the strengths available for generic Oxycodone/APAP (Percocet):

"Real" Percocet - Can You Still Get It?
Most pharmacies will not place the brand name version of Percocet on their shelves as the generic form of Percocet is so much cheaper (plus some insurance companies actually demand the use of generic products). Your local pharmacy may agree to stocking the brand name forms of Percocet, however you would be required to pay the full price for the drug.
Conversely, some healthcare professionals believe that any patients requesting brand name drugs are addicted or attempting to sell the drugs. Brand-name drugs come with a high street value - much more than generic brands. Therefore, be aware when asking for brand name drugs, as it may arouse suspicion with your healthcare provider.
Percocet Precautions & Warnings
